Position Overview
The Director of Membership and Events leads Destinations Texas' membership growth and retention strategy while owning the planning and execution of the association's four annual conferences plus signature events. This role is a blend of relationship building and operational delivery: growing and serving our member base, and managing the logistics that make our conferences and programs successful. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, organized, and comfortable wearing both a membership and an events hat in a small, fast-paced association.

Key Responsibilities
Membership Growth & Engagement
• Lead outreach to prospective members, including mid-sized and small DMOs, through in-person visits, workshops, virtual meetings, and conference engagement
• Manage membership recruitment, reengagement of former members, and ongoing retention efforts
• Design and deliver programs and touchpoints that create tangible value for existing members and drive participation across membership tiers
• Oversee membership renewals, invoicing, and accurate tracking of memberships and sponsorships within the CRM
• Serve as a primary point of contact for members, affiliates, and partners
• Support the Destinations Texas Membership and Young Professionals Committees
Conference & Event Logistics
• Plan and manage logistics for the association's four annual conferences and events, including venue sourcing and contracting, AV, food and beverage, and coordination of the partner/exhibit hall
• Own event budgets, vendor management, and on-site operations from planning through execution
• Manage event registration, ticketing setup, and attendee communications
• Oversee sponsorship servicing, fulfillment, invoicing, and recognition in coordination with marketing
• Track event and sponsorship performance and report on registration pace, revenue, and attendee satisfaction

Operational Support
• Maintain organized, accurate records across CRM and accounting systems for memberships, sponsorships, and events
• Ensure brand consistency across event materials and member-facing resources
• Build systems, workflows, and timelines that support efficient planning across a small team
• Travel as needed for member outreach, conferences, and meetings, with virtual engagement used when appropriate

Qualifications
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in business, communications, hospitality, event management, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in event management, membership, or association operations
• Demonstrated success managing multi-stakeholder events from concept through execution
• Strong financial acumen, including budget development and expense tracking
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to a board or executive team
• Proficiency with CRM/AMS platforms, event management tools, and standard productivity software
Preferred
• Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation, or equivalent hospitality/event services background
• Experience in a trade association, professional society, or nonprofit
• Familiarity with sponsorship sales and non-dues revenue development
• Experience working in a remote, small-team environment

Success Metrics
• Each of the four annual conferences runs smoothly and comes in on budget, with attendees and sponsors reporting a strong experience
• Net membership grows, with visible progress on both new-member recruitment and renewal of at-risk accounts
• At least one new member program or touchpoint is launched and adopted by the membership base
• The board and executive team receive clear, dependable updates on membership and event performance throughout the year

Work Environment
• Fully remote, with flexibility to support peak planning periods
• Travel required for conferences, meetings, and member outreach

Compensation
• Commensurate with experience and scope of responsibilities
• This position does not currently include health insurance benefits; an insurance stipend may be considered
• 401(k) retirement plan
• Flexible schedule and vacation policy
