What is Destination Management Specialist (DMS) Educational Certification?

The Destination Management Specialist or DMS program will serve as Destination Texas' educational framework for working in the DMO/CVB industry and provide hands-on, actionable education for our members and future leaders.

How do you get it?

Use the 3:2:1 Model

1. Complete 3 of the Core Tracks at the Winter Conference's Master Class format (Leadership, Marketing, Sales, and Advocacy/Communications)

2. Attend 2 Elective Courses

3. Attend 1 Destination Experience Tour (formerly known as Heritage tours)

4. Attend 1 Destination Marketing Principles session

Frequently Asked Questions about the DMS Program

Since you have earned your TDM, you will have to register and pay for the DMS program should you choose to continue your education. Your Destination Experience Tour and Destination Marketing Principles requirements will be considered complete.
DMS GENERAL QUESTIONS
We will be managing the DMS program through continuing education credits in your Member Compass. 
 We still wanted to be able to showcase our destinations but wanted to make it feasible to complete the program in a timely manner.No, there will be your normal TDM form and a sign-in/sign-out sheet for DMS sessions.
 The core tracks are set to keep the curriculum as planned. However, we are always open to new Elective topics!
We added recertification into the program in order to ensure our participants are staying on top of the trends in the industry.
The DMS Committee will evaluate special circumstances.
We removed transfer credit opportunities in an effort to maintain a curriculum and the integrity of the new certification.
In order to simplify the process, we have removed this credit option for the new program. We wanted to ensure we maintained the integrity of the education in this new certification.
 Yes, we will still be presenting TDM awards at the Annual Conference each year.
