SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Vice President of Marketing, this role leads the strategic communications and public relations efforts for the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau, elevating the destination’s brand reputation and visibility among visitors, meeting planners, media, and community stakeholders. This role is responsible for developing and executing integrated communications strategies including media relations, public relations, content development, and stakeholder messaging. Working closely with the marketing, sales, sports and executive teams, this position ensures consistent messaging that supports tourism growth, major events, and the overall destination brand. The Director of Communications collaborates with city leadership, hospitality partners, and regional organizations to amplify positive awareness of the destination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the organization’s marketing and destination branding goals.
  • Position the destination as a premier location for leisure travel, meetings, conventions, and major events through proactive storytelling and media engagement.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across earned media, social media, digital channels, and stakeholder communications.
  • Cultivate relationships with national, regional, and local media outlets, travel writers, and industry publications.
  • Lead all media relations efforts including pitching, press outreach, media tours, and press trip coordination.
  • Coordinate and host visiting journalists, influencers, and media outlets to showcase the destination.
  • Oversee development of press releases, media kits, destination story angles, and executive thought leadership opportunities.
  • Support communications surrounding major conventions, sporting events, and tourism initiatives hosted in the destination.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the bureau’s external public relations agency.
  • Provide strategic oversight of the destination’s social media presence to ensure alignment with brand voice, marketing campaigns, and communications priorities.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and creative teams to align PR storytelling with advertising campaigns and brand initiatives.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the CVB and city leadership, tourism partners, hospitality businesses, and community organizations.
  • Track and report on earned media coverage, media impressions, PR and social media performance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will supervise the Digital Media Specialist.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field along with 5+ years of progressive communications experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editorial skills.

Experience managing public relations agencies and evaluating PR performance metrics.

Strong understanding of social media strategy and digital communications trends.

Strategic thinker with the ability to translate organizational priorities into compelling narratives.

Experience managing crisis communications and sensitive issues.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

COMPUTER SOFTWARE SKILLS

Proficient in MS Office products and CRM systems. Working understanding of social media platforms and algorithms, media monitoring platforms and social media management tools. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Texas Driver's License, Class C.
