Social Media Specialist
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
The Social Media Specialist serves as the primary driver of the Arlington CVB’s social media presence and digital storytelling efforts. This position leads the planning, creation, execution, and management of engaging, platform-native content across all social media channels and supporting digital outlets to promote Arlington as a premier destination for visitors, residents, and businesses. This role helps shape and publish content that showcases Arlington’s attractions, experiences, and overall brand story, ensuring consistency, creativity, and relevance across all channels.
In addition to leading social media, this role supports influencer collaborations and assists the Director of Communications with the coordination and execution of press and FAM trips and media site visits. This includes helping organize logistics, aligning itineraries with strategic messaging, and working across teams and partners to ensure a seamless experience and impactful destination storytelling experience.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Understands the Marketing Strategic Plan and additional marketing and communications strategies to effectively promote and market our destination.
Act as social media lead for Arlington CVB, overseeing day-to-day management of all social media channels, including content planning, copywriting, publishing, engagement, and community management.
Maintain active, high-performing accounts across key platforms by consistently producing and posting relevant, on-brand content that aligns with the Marketing Strategic Plan and the Social Media Strategic Plan.
Develop, execute, and manage a comprehensive social media content strategy and digital media calendar aligned with the Marketing Strategic Plan. This includes planning and scheduling content across social media platforms, special events and occasions, as well as producing short-form video, photography, trending content, campaigns, and real-time storytelling.
Actively engage with online audiences by monitoring comments, messages, mentions, and community conversations to maintain an authentic and responsive brand presence.
Write, edit, and publish compelling copy for social media posts, website content, and other digital platforms.
Identify, recruit, and collaborate with social media influencers to promote the destination as whole and specific attractions within the influencer’s niche, working within the assigned budget for fees, travel, lodging, meals, activities, etc.
Serve as on-the-ground content lead during influencer visits, media trips, events, and activations. Attend events, activations, and key destination moments to capture real-time content for social media and broader marketing use.
Monitor, track, and analyze social media performance and digital analytics to evaluate success and provide data-driven recommendations for content optimization and strategy improvements.
Contribute and collaborate with the Marketing and Communications department on marketing campaigns that promote the destination and ACVB Partners.
Assist with the planning and implementation of familiarization and media trips, including itinerary coordination, content alignment, and on-site support.
Assist with media requests and maintain an online media room.
Develop relationships with ACVB partners, social influencers, media contacts, etc.
Support maintenance and organization of digital asset management system and media room.
Capture, product, and edit original photography and video content for use across social media, website, and marketing channels. This includes photo and video capture in dynamic environments; experience using a professional camera to produce high-quality visual content is a valuable skill for this role, though not required.
Stay current on social media trends, platform updates, and emerging content formats to ensure ACVB remains innovative and competitive in digital storytelling.
Achieve annual individual performance measures that are created in concert with the VP of Marketing and Director of Communications.

Education and/or Job Experience, Skills, Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a closely related field, plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Photography experience is a valuable skill for this role, though not required. Candidates who are comfortable using a professional camera and capturing high-quality photo and video content for digital and social media storytelling will be especially well-suited for success in this position.
Computer/Technology Skills:
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and social media platforms. Experience with graphic design programs, asset management tools, and social media scheduling platform.
Other:
Be willing and able to travel and work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on clients and office demands.
Possess a current and valid driver's license.
Be able to exercise judgment and diplomacy in various public contact situations.
Work effectively with a diverse cross-section of people, including board members, industry stakeholders, community leaders, elected officials, and industry partners.
Possess strong interpersonal skills.
Should require minimal supervision.
Must work well in a team environment.

Work Location: In person (Hybrid once established but must live close enough to drive in 3 days a week. No consecutive hybrid days off)
